PayPal has launched an official MCP (Model Context Protocol) server to enable AI-driven agentic commerce for developers and merchants.
•MCP is an Anthropic-developed standard adopted by leading AI companies to standardize how agents access data sources and third-party services.
•The first feature available is PayPal Invoicing, allowing merchants to generate invoices and shareable links via natural language prompts through any LLM.
•Two connection options are offered: a local MCP server via the Agentic Toolkit (supports Claude Desktop, Cursor AI) and a remote MCP server with cloud-based auth integration.
•Remote MCP support enables cross-device continuity with a simple PayPal login, without requiring local installation.
•PayPal plans to roll out additional products beyond invoicing in the coming months.
